University

First year. Back at the bottom of the school hierarchy. Surprisingly it's a big step forward.

Two days in and I'm appreciating a level of independence and control I've never had before, the ability to decide what's important to my education, and the freedom to change what isn't working for me. Being in general arts for now, with no declared major, I can take pretty much whichever courses catch my fancy. Thanks to this I love every class I'm in, there's no suffering through some subject I could care less about. My schedule is even timed out the way I want, no classes starting at 8am. It's great.

As for independence, it's not just that I can make my own choices, I'm literally on my own and independent most of the time. Sure lots of my friends are at the same school but with the sheer number of other people there I hardly see anyone I know. It's up to me to figure out what's going on and to try to meet new people in my classes.

I know that once courses really start up, the homework piles on and I have to trudge through snow to get from class to class, the charm will wear off. For now though, I'm loving life and loving school.

DFTBA,

-Kim
